The year 2021 is a time of growth in the cryptocurrency market. However, they are repeatedly disturbed by Elon Musk’s tweets. We reported on the substance of his posts in an article titled “Elon Musk and his impact on the cryptocurrency market“. While initially these statements were positive and were more about Dogecoin than Bitcoin, the rhetoric has changed significantly over time. Musk’s statements negatively impacted the cryptocurrency king’s stock price, which caused frustration especially among smaller investors. They also triggered a response from the Anonymous group. Consequently, the well-known hackers made a strong appeal to the Tesla CEO.
Big statements of Anonymous
In early June, a video circulated the web in which a man wearing a Guy Fawkes mask begins his statement with these words:
“Over the past few years you have enjoyed one of the most favorable reputations of anyone in the billionaire class. For you have managed to hit the desire that many of us have, to live in a world with electric cars and space exploration. Recently, however, your carefully crafted public image has been exposed, and people are beginning to see you as just another narcissistic rich man who is desperate for attention.”|
This very blunt introduction continued with statements about Musk’s manipulation of the cryptocurrency market, particularly the price of Bitcoin. It read as follows:
“Millions of retail investors were really counting on their cryptocurrency profits to improve their lives. This is something you will never understand because you were born into the stolen wealth of a South African apartheid emerald mine and have no idea what the struggle is like for most working people in the world. Of course, they took the risk when they invested and everyone knows to be prepared for volatility in the cryptocurrency market. However, your tweets show a clear disregard for the average working person.”
The Anonymous representative’s subsequent statements were directed at the hypocrisy that characterizes Musk, in the context of fighting for the environment and his words denying Bitcoin as environmentally unfriendly. They pointed to the lithium mines that are also degrading the natural space and are managed by Tesla’s CEO. Anonymous concluded by making it clear that they are around to watch Musk’s further actions. It is worth noting that these words sounded like a warning of sorts.
Musk’s reaction
Shortly after, a tweet appeared on the account of the recipient of the video that read: “Don’t kill what you hate. Keep what you love.” Many observers see this as a response to the message from Anonymous. However, a few days later, he published a meme that shows a representative of the hacker group with the caption “Hannah Montana is actually Miley Cyrus”. In this case, there is no longer any doubt that Tesla’s CEO clearly mocked the message that Anonymous activists sent towards him.
Of course, it is uncertain whether this video is authentic, as there have been comments purportedly coming from the aforementioned group of hackers that have denied their involvement. However, the cryptocurrency community wants to believe in its authenticity as it largely reflects the current mood.
