Cardano IOG once again warns against fake Daedalus wallet

The prevailing bear market does not at all make cryptocurrency scammers stop their activities. On the contrary – in some segments they are even more active. The problem is pointed out by the IOG team, which warns of a fake wallet for Cardano.

Cardano developers issue warning for fake Daedalus wallet

The Input Output Global (IOG) team behind the Cardano blockchain reported on Tuesday, October 25, about a fake Deadalus wallet present on the network. A message to this effect was posted on Twitter:

“SAFETY REMINDER: Daedalus is a download-only full node wallet for Linux, Mac and Windows computers, and the official Daedalus website is https://daedaluswallet.io

Sites such as daedaluswallet (dot) org ARE NOT OFFICIAL and are likely involved in fraudulent activity.

Be safe.”

The information was also further reported by Vice President for Communities and Ecosystems Tim Harrison, who added an additional comment:

“There is a fake Daedalus .org wallet site – our security team is working to remove it, but in the meantime, be careful.”

This is another warning from IOG

The aforementioned message comes shortly after Cardano’s development team released an update of the Daedalus wallet to version 5.1.0. We reported on this development in an article titled “Cardano Daedalus Wallet with new update that features improved integration features for wallets such as Trezor and Ledger.” Take a look if you haven’t read it yet. The article talks about a number of important changes for users.

Importantly, back at the time of the update, Cardano’s developers were already reporting on potential fake wallets that could appear online. At the time, they mentioned that Daedalus is a fully node wallet for desktops only. Any of its mobile counterparts should be classified as scams and phishing attempts.

It is very likely that the Input Output Global team has shown great reflexes. Indeed, there is no confirmed information that any ADA user has lost their funds.

Cardano’s future looks bright without an official wallet

While Cardano users benefit from the Daedalus solution, project CEO Charles Hoskinson indicates that in the future ADA is expected to have no such support from the IOG. Hoskinson assumes that at most wallet standards will be created, to be used by independent developers. The system would also be based on certification.

Meanwhile, Chainalysis analysts indicate that DeFi hacks could reach new highs in 2022. As of now, the total value of all thefts exceeds $3 billion.
