A new Instagram feature is coming into effect. From now on, creators as well as collectors get the ability to showcase the NFTs they own.
Instagram first, Facebook soon to follow
From now on, selected creators and collectors have the chance to take advantage of a new Instagram feature that is still in the testing phase. With the solution of integrating your profile with your crypto wallet, it is possible to showcase the NFT tokens you own.
The process is quite simple and involves three steps. The first one is to connect the wallet. This procedure is very similar to the form of connecting to decentralized applications. The second step is to share the selected NFTs and publish them on your instagram profile. They will be displayed like any other graphics, except that a shimmering effect will be added. It is intended to emphasize that this creation is an NFT token. This will also give viewers the opportunity to check information about a given NFT, which will be collected from publicly available data. The final third step is to mark the owner by adding his/her name and surname. This process is somehow automatic, but based on the confidentiality of personal data, there is an option to block it.
The integration was announced on his profile on Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg himself. He announced on this occasion that Facebook will also get a similar feature soon.
New opportunities
According to experts, the expansion of Instagram with the module NFT, is a great opportunity for artists. They can share their talent and work. It is getting a new form of presenting themselves on social media that they did not have before.
Meta reports that this integration is made possible by data collected from public blockchains. Initially, these involve Ethereum and Polygon second layer solutions. Solana and Flow are also expected to join soon.
Support for crypto wallets is currently limited to MetaMask, Rainbow and Trust Wallet. However, work is already underway to implement Coinbase, Phantom and Dapper solutions.
As Instagram representatives inform, only verified works can be published. Moreover, this is done with their full security, without sending from the wallet.
Testing in a limited area
The NFT sharing feature for Instagram users is still in the testing phase. For now, only select creators have been given the green light to publish, and so far, these are exclusively US residences. If the process proceeds as planned and with the highest security standards, it will expand to other regions of the world over time.
