Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) surpasses $1 billion in trading volume

Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) surpasses $1 billion in trading volume (1)

One of NFT’s most interesting collections titled Bored Ape Yacht Club, has surpassed $1 billion in trading volume. It is the second most popular collection in the OpenSea market, behind only CryptoPunks.

High interest driven by celebrities

According to available statistics, the popular NFT collection generated a total volume of 298,265 ETH. This gives a value of more than $1 billion. It is possible that this amount would not have been achieved without the involvement of celebrities. Among them is the famous rapper Eminem, who among the collection of monkeys spotted one that reminded him of himself and eventually purchased it for a value of $460,000. Stephen Curry showed no less interest in the collection. The NBA star paid $180,000 for his chosen Bored Ape.

With the increase in popularity, the BAYC collection has also secured many partnerships with well-known brands. One of them is Adidas.

What is the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC)

The Bored Ape Yacht Club is a collection of 10,000 collectible ape avatars. They have been created with artistic freedom and express particular character traits and clothing styles. Some of them wear fur, others shoot lasers from their eyes, or are cyborgs. They express a whole range of human personalities, which has influenced their popularity, as almost everyone could find something reflecting themselves.

Interestingly, these monkeys can be modified. It is possible to purchase and inject a special serum, thanks to which they will evolve to the level of Mutant Ape Yacht Club. They also grant permanent membership in the elite club. Those with a minimum of one ape in their crypto wallet will gain access to a special “canvas” on which they can paint one individual pixel. This will allow everyone to work together to create a unique masterpiece that is also an NFT project.

This is a real milestone in the NFT market

OpenSea is one of the most recognizable platforms in the NFT market. It is here that such collections as CryptoPunks, or Weird Whales, about which we wrote in the article under the title “This kid is only 12 years old and earned almost $ 400 thousand on his own NFT”, achieved their triumphs. Another popular set in this particular space, it sets the pace for growth for the platform. For the NFT market itself, Bored Ape Yacht Club is also groundbreaking. While celebrities and global brands have been involved in NFTs before, collections that can be modified or built upon to create something more like a collaborative effort are a rarity.
