Deaton outlines his predictions for 2023, including a direct ruling on Ripple

Ripple

Attorney John Deaton shared on Twitter a number of predictions for the year now underway. One catches particular attention. It is the lack of a settlement in the Ripple case. Instead, he predicts a summary judgment.

Deaton confident about finality in XRP case

On Thursday, January 12, attorney John Deaton, known for his support of Ripple, took to Twitter and informed those watching him of his predictions for the year ahead. The most interesting and incendiary point was the first one:

In it, he says that the SEC vs. Ripple case will not be resolved until Judge Analisa Torres issues a summary judgment.

This information contradicts the sentiment prevailing in the market. After all, Deaton recently conducted a poll showing that most observers of the proceedings believe it will end in a settlement.

The prediction sparked widespread discussion, causing Deaton to be tempted to clarify:

“Some people are confused by my prediction that the Ripple case will not be settled until Judge Torres issues a decision. There could be a settlement, after which a potential jury trial would be eliminated, and a potential appeal would be eliminated.”

SEC has no plans to settle

According to Deaton, SEC Chairman Gary Gensler is willing to risk a negative verdict for himself, due to the Commission’s improving image. The SEC’s improving image is said to stem from its recent victory over token issuer LBRY and the collapse of the FTX exchange. These are two fields in which the body it runs has had, or still has, the opportunity to demonstrate its successful fight to protect consumer goods.

Interestingly, a possible settlement would result in the famous Hinman documents being kept secret. This was originally the SEC’s intention, but according to Deaton, the Commission is now willing to risk making them public.

Settlement getting closer

According to experts’ predictions, if the trial goes as planned, we may hear the final verdict by March 31. In doing so, the cryptocurrency community expresses deep hopes for a victory for Ripple. The SEC’s possible success, on the other hand, could end in a real bloodbath for many altcoins.
